After a strong showing this past weekend against Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso University junior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) was chosen as The Summit League Men’s Swimmer of the Week. Kirar made a big splash at the ARC on Saturday by winning two individual events against the Panthers.
Kirar touched the wall first with a time of 9:55.87 in the 1000-free, worthy of moving him up to third all-time in Valpo history for that race. Kirar led the way in the 500-free, as well, clocking a time of 4:56.00 for his second victory of the meet. He also helped the 200-free relay to a second-place finish.
Valparaiso University men’s swimming rejoined the Summit League this summer as an affiliate member, after the University was a full-time member of the conference from 1982-2007. This is the first Swimmer of the Week award for Kirar, and is the first handed out this season to the top performer from the week prior by the league.
Kirar and the Crusaders will hit the road this Saturday, Oct. 14 as they head to Green Bay, Wis. to battle the Phoenix and UIC at Dorschel Natatorium at 2 p.m.
