A quartet of Valparaiso University student-athletes were recognized on Thursday as the Summit League unveiled its 2018 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence. Two athletes from each of Valpo’s sports that participate in the conference – men’s tennis and men’s swimming – received the high academic honor.
The men’s swimming program was represented by junior Robert Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis. / Marquette University) and senior Grant Girten (Blue Ash, Ohio / Sycamore), while the men’s tennis team had a pair of honorees in sophomores Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian) and Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern).
To qualify for the list, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 cumulative career grade point average on a 4.0 scale, must have completed at least three semesters or five quarters at the institution and must have used at least a season of competition.
