The Valparaiso men's swim team dropped a double-dual meet to Miami (Ohio) and Xavier on Saturday afternoon in Oxford, Ohio. The Crusaders fell 143-114 to Xavier and 185-72 to the host RedHawks.
Mike Hermes recorded a pair of victories for the Brown and Gold. He tallied a win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.74, then touched the wall in 2:11.95 in the 200 breast for his second victory.
Bob Schmidt earned a pair of top three places as well for the Crusaders. The freshman finished second in the 50 freestyle (22.46 seconds) then placed third in the 100 free with a time of 48.98 seconds.
Valparaiso will return to the pool in two weeks when the Crusaders head to the Mid-Continent Conference Championships. The meet, which will be hosted by Oakland in Rochster, Mich. will take place from December 5-7.
