Valpo Men Sixth at Indiana Intercollegiates

The Valparaiso men finished in sixth place at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships on Saturday afternoon at Purdue.

The Boilermakers won the meet with 568.5 points, followed by Ball State (530), IUPUI (234.5), Indianapolis (217), Vincennes (154), the Crusaders (111), and Butler (74).

Mike Hermes (Hudson, Ill./U-High) earned Valpo's top place on the afternoon, finishing third in the 100 breaststroke. His time of 1:00.87 was just .08 behind the runner-up.

Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) turned in a sixth place finish in the 100 freestyle. He touched the wall in 48.68 seconds.

The 200 free relay also earned a third place finish in the final race of the day. Bob Pederson (Urbana, Ill./Urbana H.S.), David Kessler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmigham Groves H.S.), Brent MacDonald (South Bend, Ind./Clay H.S.), and Sean Conrin (Buffalo Grove, Ill../Buffalo Grove H.S.) touched the wall in 1:31.66.

The Crusaders will return to the water next Friday and Saturday at the Eastern Illinois Invitational.
