Valparaiso wrapped up the dual meet portion of the 2011-2012 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Monmouth (Ill.) while falling to Augustana (Ill.) and Western Illinois in a triple dual meet held in Monmouth, Ill.
The Crusaders downed Monmouth 156-78 but dropped a138-115 decision to Augustana and fell 170-83 against Western Illinois.
Valpo opened the meet in triumphant fashion, posting a win in the 400 medley relay. Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.), Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.), Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.), and Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West H.S.) posted a time of 3:41.51, winning the event by a half second.
Trimpe also won the 100 breaststroke individually with a time of 1:02.06, a victory by nearly a second. He added a third place effort in the 200 individual medley, posting a mark of 2:05.28.
Braun finished second in the 50 free with a time of 22.76 seconds while placing third in the 100 free, touching the wall in 49.66 seconds.
Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.) added a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:05.46.
Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton H.S.) added a third place finish for the Brown and Gold in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.99 seconds. He also finished in the same place in the 200 back, posting a time of 2:06.78.
Fedde also turned in a third place finish on the day, doing so in the 100 fly. He finished with a time of 56.71 seconds.
Valparaiso (2-10) will have a couple of weeks off before returning to the water for the Horizon League Championships. The four day meet will begin on Feb. 22 in Milwaukee, Wis.
