Valpo’s Honert Garners Horizon League All-Academic Team Honors

Valparaiso University’s Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) has been voted to the Horizon League’s All-Academic Team in men’s tennis for his work on the court and in the classroom during the 2011-2012 season.

Honert led Valpo with 20 singles victories on the season, tying the school’s single season victory record.  Playing at second singles throughout the year, he finished with a 20-11 record.  He won 11 of 12 matches during one stretch of play in February and March, and was named the Horizon League’s Player of the Week on March 20.  The sophomore also posted 14 doubles wins during the season.

A mechanical engineering major, Honert carries a 3.85 cumulative grade point average.

To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, the student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours.
