Men’s Tennis Adds Three for 2012-2013 Season

Valparaiso University men’s tennis coach Jim Daugherty has announced the addition of three more freshmen to his roster for the 2012-2013 season.  Joining the Crusaders this fall are Daniel Etman, Brian Hickey, and Lucas Waak.

Etman, a native of Highland Park, Ill., played his senior year of high school at the Evert Tennis Academy in Florida.  He won three tournaments in the Chicagoland area, and competed in five ITF events.

Hickey, from Western Springs, Ill., was an All-Area and All-Chicago Catholic League selection over his final three seasons at Fenwick High School.  He won more than 20 singles matches during his junior and senior seasons, and was a two-time team captain.  Hickey was the voted the Lawless Award winner by his conference coaches, voted upon annually to recognize the top senior in the conference.

Waak, a native of Manitowoc, Wis., was a three-time state qualifier and three-time All-State selection for Roncalli High School.  He finished as the state runner-up as a senior, posting a 30-3 record in 2011-2012.  He was also named County Player of the Year twice during his prep career.

The trio join Michael Baiocchi (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley H.S.), Daniel Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North H.S.), and Michael Savaglio (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford H.S.) as newcomers for this season.
