The Crusaders dropped a 7-0 match Friday afternoon to Western Michigan as Valpo continues to tread through its most difficult part of the schedule.
The doubles matches were close as the No. 1 team of Eric Honert and Lucas Waak lost their match 8-4. The No. 2 doubles team of Chris Baum and Danny Oakes recorded an 8-6 victory while the No. 3 doubles' partners Michael Savaglio and Michael Baiocchi were defeated 8-6.
In singles play, Baiocchi fared the best at No .4 as he took Aaron Wong to a third-set tiebreaker before losing 7-5, 2-6, 0-1 (7-10). No. 5 player Waak fell short in his match 3-6, 5-7.
No. 1 singles saw Nadin Indre defeat Honert 6-0, 6-2. Baum dropped his match at No. 2 by the score of 1-6, 1-6. Western Michigan's Ruben Greiner beat Savaglio in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Freshman Brian Hickey rounded up the singles play with a 1-6, 0-6 loss at No. 6.
With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 4-3 on the season. The road trip continues Saturday in West Lafayette, Indiana when Valpo takes on the Purdue Boilermakers at 4:00 pm. Purdue enters the match with a 7-2 overall record.
