The Valparaiso men's tennis team defeated Monmouth College 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Star Island Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Sophomores Michael Savaglio (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) and Brian Hickey (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) didn't surrender a game in their win at No. 3 doubles. Michael Baiocchi (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) secured the doubles point when they downed the duo of Derek Rineberg and Chris Franco 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) and Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) swept doubles play for Valpo with an 8-4 triumph over the Fighting Scots' No. 1 doubles pairing of David Johnson and David Stewart.

Valparaiso cleaned up in singles play as no Crusader lost more than four games in any of their six straight set victories. 

Baiocchi overthrew Alex King 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Hickey pitched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Ted Staros at No. 6.

Valpo clinched the match at No. 2 after Honert's 6-0, 6-0 dismissal of Rineberg.

Waak improved his singles record to 13-3 thanks to a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Andrew Shiakallis at No. 4 singles.

Dunn won easily at No. 3 over Marco Franco, 6-1, 6-1 for his third straight victory.

In his first match at No. 1 singles this season, Savaglio made quick work of David Johnson, 6-3, 6-1. Savaglio's 14 singles wins ties him with Dunn for third most on the team.

As a team, Valpo's combined singles record is 118-59 (.667).

Freshman Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) got the day off, but the lefty will go for history tomorrow versus Creighton. Schorsch's 20 singles wins are tied for the most ever by a Crusader in a single season. Valpo (11-3) will square off against the Bluejays (5-2) at 11:30 am ET/10:30 am CT in Orlando.
