Crusaders Drop Mid-Con Opener to IUPUI

The Valparaiso men's tennis team dropped its Mid-Continent Conference opener to IUPUI 5-2 on Friday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo.

The Jaguars opened by sweeping all three doubles matches to take the day's first point. IUPUI (8-5, 1-0 Mid-Con) took first and second doubles by scores of 8-3 and won third doubles 8-4.

In singles action, Valpo picked up a pair of victories but it was not enough, as the Jaguars scored four wins to secure the match. Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) rallied from a set down to post a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top spot for the Brown and Gold. Tyler Neemann (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson H.S.) also dropped the first set at fourth singles before scoring a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 win.

Valpo (2-10, 0-1) will return to action in Kansas City on Saturday morning to face Western Illinois beginning at 9 a.m.
