Valpo Defeats UWGB; Splits with Creighton at Bradley Invitational

The Valparaiso University men's tennis team defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay 4-2 and played to a 3-3 tie with Creighton in singles action on Saturday at the Bradley Invitational.

Valpo won at the top three positions against the Phoenix. Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay and also defeated Creighton 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.

Freshman Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) also recorded a pair of victories, including a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Wisconsin-Green Bay and a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Against UWGB, another freshman, Joe Venegas (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North H.S.0 recorded a 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 come-from-behind victory at third singles, while Jeff Vrabel (Allen Park, Mich./St. Francis Cabrini H.S.) won at fourth singles against Creighton 6-4, 7-6. Tyler Neemann (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson H.S.) also won his match at fifth singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over UWGB.

Valpo will return to the courts on September 26-28 when they travel to Muncie, Ind. for the Ball State Invitational. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. each day.
