Vrabel Moves Into Quarterfinals at Ball State Invitational

Jeff Vrabel (Allen Park, Mich./St. Francis Cabrini H.S.) won a pair of matches to move into the quarterfinals at the Ball State Fall Invitational on Friday in Muncie, Ind.

The senior, playing in the C Flight, defeated Daniel Jackson of IPFW 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round before downing Matthew Zollman of Xavier (Ohio) 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 16. He will play Evan West of Butler on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Tyler Neemann (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson H.S.) also won his opening match in the C Flight, downing Scott Roebuck of Bradley 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 before falling to Ivan D'Argence Arceo of Indiana State 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.

Jay Adams (Detroit, Mich./Andover H.S.) registered Valpo's only other singles victory on day one, defeating Eric Stuertz of Eastern Illinois 6-1, 6-2 in the consolation bracket of the D Flight. He will face Joe Harvath of IUPUI in Saturday's consolation quarterfinals.

All four of Valpo's doubles teams fell in the opening round of play and will play in the consolation draw beginning on Saturday. Adams and Evan Roller (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem H.S.) have already advance to the semifinals in the D Flight of doubles after their opponents from Eastern Illinois pulled out of the quarterfinal match due to injury.

Play will begin again on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.
