Returning to the courts early Saturday morning after play was called Friday night due to rain, Presbyterian won both of the final two matches that were resumed to defeat Valparaiso 5-2 at Star Island Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
Valpo, which had trailed 3-0 in the contest before winning two matches to cut the deficit to 3-2 when play was halted, needed to win both of the final two contests which were in progress.
Unfortunately for the Brown and Gold, Presbyterian (6-6) won both remaining contests. Zachary Sprouse rallied in the second set against Michael Woodson (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft H.S.) to post a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the sixth spot to secure the match. Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) also dropped his third set at number five singles to fall 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 against Gonzalo Asis.
Valparaiso (2-6) will return to action on its spring trip Monday morning as the Crusaders face Saint Cloud State in Florida. First serve is set for 8:30 a.m. CST.
