Valpo men's tennis head coach Jim Daugherty announced today that Michael Woodson has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach.
Woodson, a Valparaiso University alum, has been an assistant coach for Daugherty for the past three years. Prior to joining Daugherty's staff, Woodson played three seasons with the Brown and Gold. He was the recipient of the athletic department's Laurel Award, which honors the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average.
"Michael has been instrumental in the rejuvenation of this program over the last three years," said Daugherty. "His ability to identify and cultivate top-level talent has put Valpo tennis on the map. He really deserves this promotion because of all he's contributed, both on and off the court."
Since Woodson joined the coaching staff prior to the 2012-13 season, the Crusaders have gone 51-28. This past year's squad advanced to the finals of the Horizon League Tennis Championship for the first time in program history. The 21 regular-season wins achieved in 2014-15 were two more than the previous watermark of 19 set in 2013-14.
