Junior Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) handed Josef Dodridge a straight-set loss at No. 1 singles, but Wisconsin recorded a 6-1 win over Valpo at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers grabbed the doubles point following wins at No. 1 and 2. Jakhongir Jalolov and Jose Carranza downed Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli), 6-2, but Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) fired back with a 6-3 triumph at No. 3.
With the opening point in the balance, Dodridge and Lamar Remy squeaked by Schorsch and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) in a tiebreaker at No. 1. The Wisconsin duo escaped with a 7-6 (5) victory to take a 1-0 lead.
The Badgers registered three consecutive wins in singles play to clinch the match.
Alexander Kokorev defeated Bacalla 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 before Osgar O'Hoisin dispatched Emhardt by a score of 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.
Carranza got past Michael Savaglio (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. Schorsch got Valpo on the scoreboard thanks to his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Dodridge at No. 1.
Kissell took Remy to three sets at No. 3, but the Remy managed a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 triumph. Darius Mackenzie wrapped up play with a 7-6 (1), 6-4 win at No. 5 over Dunn.
Valpo (1-2) will get right back at it Sunday afternoon when Western Michigan visits The Courts of NWI for a 2:00 pm tilt.
