The Valpo men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches Saturday with a 5-2 triumph over Xavier at Western Tennis & Fitness Center in Cincinnati. Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) improved to 21-7 in doubles play with a 6-4 victory at No. 1. The junior duo also registered wins in singles play.

Schorsch and Emhardt's 6-4 result over Matt Bishop/Zach Mueck atop doubles play was the first completed. Xavier fought back to even the series with a 6-3 win at No. 2. With the opening point in the balance, Jack Dykema and Brian Carman snagged a 7-6 (7-4) tussle over Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac).

Schorsch quickly got the Crusaders on the scoreboard at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mueck. Emhardt was victorious at No. 4 by virtue of his 6-4, 6-1 win over Bishop. Xavier's Jeremy Schneider brought the match to a 2-2 tie after he knocked off Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4.

Kissell downed Arthur Stefani, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) clinched the match for Valpo thanks to his 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 versus Trent Smith. The sophomore is now 10-1 in his last eleven singles matches.

Dunn added a 7-5, 6-3 win over Dykema for good measure at No. 6.

Valpo (14-5) will open Horizon League play at home next Saturday versus Northern Kentucky (3-3). The Norse fell 4-2 to Xavier back on February 26th. First serve is slated for 2:00 pm CT at the Valpo Tennis Complex, weather permitting.
