Men’s Tennis Team Hauls in Academic Accolades

The success of the Valparaiso University men’s tennis program in recent years has extended beyond the court as the Crusaders continued to earn academic honors on Tuesday.

Valpo was named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association again this season.

In addition, three individuals were recognized as ITA scholar athletes – Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian) and Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) both received the honor for the second straight year, while Gabriel Carvajal (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Broward Virtual School [Florida Atlantic]) earned the distinction in his first season at Valpo.

Valpo tennis continues to pile up academic honors as Ancona and Brozovich were recently named to the Summit League Commissioner’s List, five Valpo tennis players were named to the Summit League honor roll and Ancona earned a spot on the Summit Academic All-League team.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 and have been enrolled at their current school for at least two semesters.
