Valparaiso University freshman Kristopher Schmautz (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate H.S.) finished in 22nd place in the javelin on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Mideast Regionals held in Columbus, Ohio.

The Mid-Continent Conference Newcomer of the Year turned in a best throw of 176'8" in the event. Schmautz entered the competition seeded 32nd in the event.

The conclusion of the NCAA Regional Championships brings a close to the Crusaders track and field season for 2003.
