Lee Wins Mid-Con Title in Long Jump

Joshua Lee (Yellow Jacket, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez H.S.) won the long jump on Friday afternoon to help lead Valparaiso into third place through two days of competition at the Mid-Continent Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Kansas City, Mo.

The Crusaders have 31 points and trail just Southern Utah (112) and Western Illinois (98) in the standings. Oral Roberts is fourth with 19 points while UMKC has 13 points. Chicago State has yet to score.

Lee, a senior, turned in the second best jump in school history, 23'9 ", to win the event by 1'8 ". With the win, Lee also becomes an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Regional Championships to be held in two weeks.

In the shot put, Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) finished third with a toss of 49'0 " while teammate Bryan Bell (Bellevue, Neb./East H.S.) was eighth with a throw of 46'4 ".

The javelin saw freshman Brett Maynard (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington H.S.) earned a sixth place finish with his toss of 166'0" and teammate Mark Lincoln (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham H.S.) place two spots behind him with a mark of 154'1".

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Adriano Schultz (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S.) was sixth crossing the finish line in 9:57.35.

The only other event final on Friday was the decathlon where Jeff Moscinski (Rockford, Ill./Christian Life H.S.) led the way for Valpo with a ninth place finish with 4,809 points.

The meet will conclude on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
