Valpo Participates in Chicagoland Championships

Valparaiso placed tenth Saturday at the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill.

Leading the Valpo effort in the field events was Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township H.S.). Bartholomew finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 49'8 ¼".

Tom Heun (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S.) registered a seventh place finish for the Crusaders in the 55m hurdles. Heun crossed the line in the event in 8.19 seconds.

Valpo also held its own in the distance events. Jim Turchyn (Batesville, Ind./Batesville H.S.) placed eighth in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:59.64. Rich Krupar III (Elyria, Ohio/Midview H.S.) came home in 4:30.76 in the mile run, good for tenth place.

The Crusaders tallied 10 points on the day, good for tenth place out of the 19 teams in competition. North Central captured the team title with 158 points.

Valparaiso returns to the track Sunday, February 26 in Bloomington, Ill. on the first day of action at the Mid-Continent Conference Indoor Championships.
