The Horizon League announced today that Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) has been named its U.S. Army Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Honig posted a second-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase last weekend at the Miami Team Challenge with a time of 9:31.78.  His runner-up finish matched the Crusaders’ best placement of the meet, and his time was just seven seconds off of his career-best in the event.

In the classroom, Honig maintains a 3.598 GPA as a history major.  He previously earned Scholar-Athlete of the Week accolades during cross country season and was a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll last fall.  Honig also was named to the Academic All-League teams in both cross country and indoor track and field.
