Crusader Men Close Out Horizon League Indoor Championships
Steve Schubert posted a tenth-place showing in the triple jump Sunday.

Senior Tom Heun (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) led the Valparaiso men’s track and field squad in the final day of competition at the Horizon League Indoor Championships in Greencastle, Ind., posting a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles.

Heun, who qualified fifth for the event finals in the 60m hurdles on Saturday, maintained his position in the event finals.  The senior shaved two-hundredths of a second off his preliminary time, crossing the line in 8.60 seconds.

On the infield, Valpo registered a trio of top-ten finishes Sunday.  Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) posted his second seventh-place finish of the meet, matching his season-best in the triple jump with a leap of 43’3 ¼”.  In the same event, Steve Schubert (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) recorded a season-best mark of 42’4” to finish in tenth position.  Christopher Stohs (Shawnee, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) placed seventh in the shot put with a season-best toss of 41’2 ½”.

Keith Button (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) led the Crusaders in the mile run, crossing the line in 4:40.82, while Leandro Schultz (Valley View, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) paced Valpo in the 3,000m run with a season-best time of 8:59.37.  Chris Walsh (Pittsboro, N.C./Cary Academy) finished in sixth place in the heptathlon, scoring 3,345 pts.  Walsh’s best individual event showing came in the 1,000m run, where he placed second, crossing the line in 3:01.02.

As a team, the Crusaders finished in seventh place, tallying seven points over the two-day meet.  Milwaukee captured the team championship with 147 points.
