While competing at the GVSU Tune-Up on Friday, Valparaiso’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ 4x400-meter relay teams took first and third respectively.
The ‘A’ relay team, comprised of Antwon Hatchett (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central), Josh Carow (Greenwood, Ind./Indianapolis Lutheran), Tyler Crum (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth), and Chad Brooks (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) broke the tape at 3:25.29.
The ‘B’ relay team, consisting of Joe Holy (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic), Andrew Butts (Clayton, Ohio, Northmont), Kurtis Slenk (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian), and Anthony Franze (Gunter, Texas/Gunter), clocked in at 3:26.33.
Elsewhere on the track, Trace Ostergren (LaPorte, Ind./Culver Academy) captured a top-ten finish in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line at 15:36.26 for a ninth-place finish in the event. Ostergren’s time was a season-best for the Crusaders.
In the field events for Valparaiso, Elijah Owen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) finished third in high jump, clearing 6’1 ¼” – the best height of the season for the Crusaders.
In the pole vault, Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) placed fifth, clearing 14’5 ½”.
Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) threw for 51’3 ½” in the weight throw, good for ninth-place overall.
