Owen, Zosso Lead Crusader Men at DePauw

On Saturday, the Crusader men traveled to Greencastle, Ind. to compete in the DePauw Invitational. Valparaiso saw nine athletes collect top ten finishes, with Elijah Owen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) and Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) leading the way with third and fourth-place finishes, respectively.

Owen supplied the Crusaders with their best finish of the day, taking third in the javelin with a mark of 173’7”. Owen also took eighth in the high jump (5’8 ¾”).

Zosso’s height of 14’7 ¼” in the pole vault not only gave him a fourth-place finish, but it also tied the top mark in program history.

Max Salguero (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) took fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 10:18.39.

The Crusaders produced a pair of top ten finishers in the 5,000-meter run, with Trace Ostergren (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) taking fifth and Adam Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) taking ninth. Ostergren clocked in at 15:39.00, while Bruno finished just ten seconds later at 15:49.20. Max Morello crossed in finish line in 15:52.90; just two seconds outside the top ten.

In the 400-meter dash, Chad Brooks (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) clocked in at 51.98 for sixth-place.

Antwon Hatchett (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) ran for a ninth-place finish in the hurdles with a time of 57.82.

Valparaiso’s 4x400 and 4x100 meter relay teams each captured top ten finishes. The 4x400-meter relay team finished fifth (3:25.02), while the 4x100-meter relay team took eighth (44.02).

The Crusader men finished the meet in ninth-place with 28.33 points.

Up next for the Crusaders are the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill. The two day event begins on Friday, April 11th.
