Getz Takes Third in Javelin at Horizon League Outdoor Championships

Jeremy Getz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Crusader men at day one of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships with a third-place finish in the javelin. Getz, who has been dealing with an injury all season long, threw for a personal season-best of 181’0” in the final - missing second-place by just three inches.

In the same event, Elijah Owen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) finished seventh (158’10”), while Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) took eighth (139’3”).

Smutz also finished eighth in the discus with a mark of 141’0”. Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) rounded out the top-ten in the discus, throwing for 137’2”.

After the first five events of the decathlon, Owen (2727 points) and Kevin Adamik (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) (2643 points) currently sit in fifth and sixth, respectively.

After the first day of competition, the Crusaders sit in fourth-place with 6 points. Action at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships resumes tomorrow at the Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown, Ohio. Both live video and live stats will be available through ValpoAthletics.com.
