Crusaders Open Season at Lewis

Valparaiso's men's track and field team opened its 2003 season on Saturday afternoon, competing in the Lewis Opener, a non-scoring meet.

Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) earned a pair of fifth place finishes. His toss of 44'9 ½" in the weight throw and 46'1 ½" in the shot put earned were the Crusaders top finishes on the day.

Bryan Bell (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue East H.S.) finished sixth in the shot with a heave of 45'0 ¼", while Matt Larson (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator H.S.) earned the same place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 42'8 ¼".

Joshua Lee (Yellow Jacket, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez H.S.) finished eighth in the long jump for the Brown and Gold with a leap of 21'1".

On the oval, David Wheeler (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East H.S.) turned in Valpo's top finish with a time of 2:01.42 in the 800m run. Joe Dwyer (Lansing, Ill./TF South H.S.) placed 11th in the 200m dash with a time of 24.22 seconds.

Valparaiso will take the holidays off before returning to the track on January 17 at the Carthage D1 Invitational.
