Valpo Finishes 7th at Miami Invitational

Valparaiso's men's track and field team finished in seventh place at the Miami Invitational held on Saturday afternoon in Oxford, Ohio.

The Crusaders tallied 28 points, finishing in front of Ohio, Purdue, and Marshall. Cincinnati won the event with 236.5 points.

Matt Larson (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator H.S.) continued to improve upon his school record mark in the hammer throw turning in a toss of 143'9". Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 47'3", while Eric Smith (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) was eighth in the discus with a throw of 140'3".

On the oval, Matt Wheeler (Dixon, Ill./Dixon H.S.) turned in a fifth place time in the 400m crossing the finish line in 49.18 seconds. Matt Blume (Logansport, Ind./Pioneer H.S.) was sixth in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:55.18, while Adam Wierciak (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette H.S.) placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.55 seconds.

Valpo will head to the Pacesetter Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. Friday's events begin at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday's start at 9:30 a.m.
