Valpo Wins DePauw Quadrangular

Valparaiso came out victorious at the DePauw Quadrangular meet on Saturday afternoon in Greencastle, Ind. The Crusaders totalled 215 points, 23 more than runner-up DePauw's total of 192.

Indiana Wesleyan finished third with 166 points, while Butler was fourth with 97 points.

Valpo faired quite well in the throwing events, winning three of the contests. Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) doubled up with a convincing win in the shot put with a toss of 49'8 ½", 4'7" further than his nearest competitor. He also triumphed in the hammer throw with a toss of 140'10". Eric Smith (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) tallied the win in the discus with a toss of 129'11".

Adam Wierciak (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette H.S.) was a double-winner in the hurdles for the Crusaders, as he took the 110m event with a time of 15.57 seconds. He also won the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.56 seconds.

Matthew Wheeler (Dixon, Ill./Dixon H.S.) also posted a victory in the 400m dash for the Crusaders with a time of 50.56 seconds.

Valpo also triumphed in both the 4x100m relay (44.55 seconds) and 4x400m relay (3:30.79).

The Brown and Gold will return to action next Saturday, April 10, as they head to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami (Ohio) Invitational beginning at 8 a.m. CDT.
