Dierberg Earns Valpo's Lone Singles Win against Indiana State

Valparaiso's women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 contest with Indiana State on Monday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Sycamores won two of the three doubles contests, with Jill Dierberg (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) and Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) teaming for Valpo's lone victory, a 9-8 triumph at the third spot.

In singles action, Indiana State (13-8) won first, second, fourth, and fifth singles in straight sets, while Dierberg posted the only Crusaders win. She was a 6-4, 6-2 victor at third singles. The sixth singles match was stopped with Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) leading 7-5, 3-2.

Valpo (4-5) will open Mid-Continent Conference action on Friday afternoon with a pair of matches. The Crusaders will face Oral Roberts at 9 a.m. and Western Illinois at 1 p.m. in Chicago.
