Saturday, January 28, 2006
Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) and Laura Rolf (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest H.S.) continued their stellar running Saturday, bringing home one event win apiece as Valparaiso competed Saturday in the final day of action at the Findlay Indoor Track and Field Classic.

Nunnelly broke the tape in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 2:16.17, a time that is the third-fastest in Valpo history. Rolf followed with a victory of her own, hers coming in the mile run. Her time of 5:04.05 ranks fifth-best in the Crusader record books. Nunnelly and Rolf were both part of Valpo's 4x800m relay team that broke a school record Friday.

Ashley Billstrom (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall H.S.) posted two top-ten finishes on the day. She trailed Rolf by just 17 seconds in the mile, finishing 8th with a time of 5:21.16. She followed that performance with a 4th place finish in the 3000 meter run, coming home in 10:36.73. Jobeth Schmiesing (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West H.S.) and Renae Swift (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) also recorded top-tens in the 3000 meters.

Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain H.S.) brought home two second place finishes. She finished as runner-up in the 55 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.57 seconds, and also was second in the triple jump, leaping 36'8 ½". Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan H.S.) registered an eighth-place finish in the long jump, moving into second on Valpo's all-time best in the event with a leap of 17'.
