Zosso Sets New Standard at Mike Lints Alumni Open
Reigning HL champion Justin Zosso set a new program record in the pole vault today in Allendale, Mich.

The Valparaiso track and field teams competed in the Mike Lints Alumni Open at Grand Valley State University on Friday afternoon.

Reigning Horizon League champion Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) bested his own program standard in the pole vault by two inches with his mark of 4.65m/15-3.0 to claim seventh place.

Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) took home the title in the high jump with her height of 1.64m/5-4.5. Ann Chapman (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) finished in 11th  place in the triple jump (9.86m/32-4.25) and 22nd in the long jump (4.38m/14-5.5).

Jonathon Heagy (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) finished 12th in the high jump with a height of 1.78m/5-10.0. Gaberial Williams finished in eighth place in the triple jump with a mark of12.01m/39-5.00.

Adam Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) had two top-seven finishes, placing seventh in the mile (4:21.93) and the 800 meter (1:59.17). Ben Zibricky (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) finished one spot behind Bruno in the 800m as he set a new personal best (2:00.06).

Michelle Espino (Fort Wayne, Ind./North Side [Goshen]) finished tenth  in the 5000m (19:59.24). On the men’s side, Max Morello (Plano, Ill./Plano) crossed the line in 16:06.06 to earn 15th place.

Hannah Reynard (Jackson, Mich./Napelon) set a new personal best in the 400m (1:00.98) as she finished in 15th place.

Megan Howdeshell (Bourbon, Ind./Triton) threw 14.87m/48-9.5 in the weight throw and 11.14m/36-6.75 in the shot put to finish in 13th and 16th  place, respectively.

Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) finished in seventh placed in the weight throw with his toss of 17.81m/58-5.25.

Both the men and women finished with 10 points and in ninth place.

The Crusaders return to the track next Friday, Jan. 23, when they head east to Fort Wayne, Ind. for the IPFW Quad. Start time is set for 2:00 pm CT.
