Valparaiso sophomore men's track and field athlete Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and freshman women's swimmer Dani Gomez Barrientos (Mexico City, Mexico/Grandview [Fla.] Prep) have been named the athletic department’s Student-Athletes of the Month for January.

Zosso stood out in the pole vault all month long for the Crusaders. Competing in four meets, the sophomore won twice and posted a second-place finish as well. Zosso set a new personal best and improved upon his own school record at the Mike Lints Alumni Open, clearing 15'3". He also set a new meet record at the IPFW Duals.

Gomez Barrientos helped the women's swim team to a 2-2 record in January, continuing her standout rookie campaign. She was named the Horizon League women's Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 14 after helping the Crusaders to a win over Rose-Hulman, touching the wall first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. She also won the 100 fly against Green Bay and UIC, capturing the 200 IM against the Phoenix as well. Gomez Barrientos closed the month with three event wins (200 free, 50 fly, 100 fly) as Valpo defeated Eastern Illinois on Senior Day.
