The Valparaiso track and field teams had a trio of throwers compete on Friday in the final day of the Gregory Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

Senior Jeremy Getz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) captured the title in the javelin with his throw of 63.88m/209-7, besting the field by almost 20 feet on his first attempt.

Junior Heather Mende (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) took fourth in the women’s javelin with her throw of 33.62m/110-4.

Freshman Andrew Guzek (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) finished sixth in the men’s shot put with a season best heave of 15.17m/49-9.25.
