Alex Watson finished third in the pole vault for the Valpo men on Friday.

The Valparaiso University track and field teams returned to action to start the new calendar year on Friday at the Bob Eubanks Open, hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. On the men’s side, senior classmates Montel Hall (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) in the triple jump and Alexander Watson (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) in the pole vault both finished third. Thoughts from Head Coach Ryan Moore

On Returning to Competition: “It was nice to see the whole body coming together to figure out where we’re going to be at this year. There’s room for improvement since we’re coming off break. You never really know what you’ll get until everyone is back. We will work out the kinks and see where everyone is at and go from there. All in all, I think it was a strong start to the year.”

On Moving Forward: “There were several bright spots today. I think we’re on par with what I’ve seen consistently from each group. There’s a good buzz with this program about the direction we’re going. I think it’s exciting.”
