Southern Utah scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning and held on to defeat Valpo 16-12 in an elimination game at the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament. Sean Peickert had four hits and four RBIs for the Crusaders, while Eddie Hannan added four hits and one RBI. Kyle Young tallied two hits and three RBIs. Valpo finished the season with a 22-33-1 record.

Fourth-seed Valpo lost to top seed Oral Roberts 8-0 in the first round of the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament. Dennis Bigley tossed a one-hit, complete game and struck out 12 for the Golden Eagles. Eric Snyder had the Crusaders' lone hit, a single in the seventh. David Castillo and Bigley each hit solo homers for ORU.

Valpo, the #4 seed, will play #1 seed Oral Roberts on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Mid-Continent Conference Baseball Tournament at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday. The tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Tom Starck struck out 11 and allowed just three hits over eight innings, and Marc Boggio hurled a complete-game as Valpo swept a Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader from Chicago State by scores of 8-2 and 6-1. The Crusaders scored five runs in the final two innings of the first game to earn the win. Jeff Rickert's two-run single was the key hit in the eighth. Jeff Mandsager belted a three-run homer and Kevin Kutansky added a two-run blast in the nightcap.

After Valpo rallied for six runs in the final two innings to tie the game at 12-12, Southern Utah delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Crusaders 13-12 in the second game of a Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader. Southern Utah also edged Valpo 11-10 in the first game. Valpo's Marc Boggio went seven-for-nine with five RBIs in the twinbill, while Kevin Kutansky had five hits and five RBIs. Jeff Mandsager went three-for-four with two RBIs and Kyle Young had two hits and three RBIs in the first game. The Crusaders tallied 26 hits on the day. Southern Utah, which began its game-winning rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, won the nightcap on Curt Elliott's bases-loaded RBI single to right.

Marc Boggio had two doubles in the first game to become Valpo's all-time doubles leader with 57. Sean Peickert had a big day at the plate with five hits, including a homer and two doubles.

The Crusaders split the doubleheader as the Leathernecks came back to win the second game 3-2. In Valpo's victory, Sean Peickert had two doubles and two RBIs, and Tom Starck struck out 10 batters in 8 innings.

A junior lefthander from Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph's, Starck struck out a career-high 12 batters without issuing a walk in the 9-inning, complete-game win.

Senior Todd Evans was selected as the Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher of the Week after defeating Oral Roberts 3-1 on Sunday. A righthander from Valparaiso, Ind./HS, Evans was impressive against the Golden Eagles, allowing just an unearned run and six hits in six-plus innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter, while earning his second win of the season.

In the first game, Boggio limited the Mastodons to one run on four hits in 6 innings before Paetznick pitched the seventh for the save. Starck struck out seven, while allowing three earned runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings in the nightcap. Paetznick struck out the last batter with the tying run on third to record his fourth save. Brandon Sadler had two hits and four RBIs in the second game.

In the first game, Marc Boggio hurled a complete-game, three hitter and Kevin Kutansky drove in the winning run with a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the nightcap, Elliott Gibbs and Adam Paetznick combined on the three-hit shutout. Gibbs struck out nine in 6 innings. Eric Snyder's RBI sacrifice bunt and a passed ball accounted for Valpo's runs. Snyder and Kyle Young had two hits each on the day.

With the bases loaded and one out, Eric Snyder hit a fly ball to medium center field that was dropped by the Pumas' centerfielder. As a result of the error, Ryan Eberhardt scored and Mike Arensdorff followed with the game-winning run. Eddie Hannan belted a homer and had three RBIs, while Brandon Sadler hammered a two-run homer and Caleb Kimmel added a solo shot. Arensdorff and Sean Peickert tallied three hits each for Valpo.

All of the games will be played at Youngstown. On Saturday, the Crusaders will play YSU (3-9) at 3 p.m. EST and Akron (2-8) at 6 p.m. EST. On Sunday, Valpo is scheduled to play Akron at noon EST. The Crusaders have not played a game since March 11.

Young drove in all five Crusader runs as the senior catcher also delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning. Valpo has compiled a 1-2 record on its Florida Spring Trip thus far. On Sunday, Todd Evans pitched 5 1/3 innings and earned the win as the Crusaders defeated Duquesne 7-5. Adam Paetznick pitched the final inning to record the save. The offense was ignited by Caleb Kimmel and Brandon Sadler, both of whom delivered RBI doubles. On Monday, the Crusaders' comeback attempt fell short in the late innings as Valpo lost to Holy Cross 5-3. Eddie Hannan belted a solo homer and Jeff Mandsager hit an RBI single for the Crusaders.
