Crusaders Fall to Indiana State 3-1

Friday, September 27, 2002

Two goals in the first 11 minutes proved to be more than enough as Indiana State defeated Valparaiso 3-1 on Friday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.

Nichole Tiggs scored at the 6:56 mark to put the Sycamores up 1-0, and Ashlie Voerg followed up with a goal at 11:00.

Lindsay Holley (Waldorf, Md./Westlake H.S.) scored her team-leading third goal of the season at 20:44 to cut the lead in half, but Casey Kluesner added an insurance goal in the 69th minute as Indiana State secured the victory.

Indiana State outshot the Crusaders 26-9 for the match that saw just ten fouls called, six on Valpo and four on the Sycamores.

Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) made ten saves for the Brown and Gold while Carey Patton made four for Indiana State.

Valpo (1-5-1) will return to action on Sunday afternoon when the Crusaders host IUPUI at Eastgate Field. Kickoff in the Mid-Continent Conference opener for each team is slated for 2 p.m.
