Valpo's Joaquim "Kikas" Gomes, a starter on Angola's National Team, has turned in some impressive performances at the World Basketball Championships in Indianapolis. The 6'9" junior forward has averaged 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in six contests.

Against Spain, Gomes scored 24 points, sinking nine of 16 shots, and grabbed six rebounds. In a two-point loss to Puerto Rico, he tallied 19 points and nine rebounds. Gomes recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds against Brazil.
