Valparaiso picked up its first victory of the 2003 spring season on Wednesday defeating Bethune-Cookman 4-3 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Crusaders picked up the first point of the day in doubles action as Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) and Jeff Vrabel (Allen Park, Mich./St. Francis Cabrini H.S.) won 8-6 at the top spot. Valpo also won third doubles by default.

In singles play, Tyler Neemann (Manassas,Va./Stonewall Jackson H.S.) registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory at fourth singles, while Nate Gordon (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth H.S.) won 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles. Jay Adams (Detroit, Mich./Andover H.S.) won at sixth singles by default.

Valpo will return to action on Thursday at Embry-Riddle.
