Valparaiso University punter Ryan Bateman was selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District V University Division Football Team by the district's sports information directors.

Bateman, a senior from Chester, Calif./Shasta JC, was the lone punter selected. A physical education/secondary education major, Bateman has earned a 3.615 cumulative grade point average through Spring Semester. This season, he has averaged 36.9 yards on 48 punts for the Pioneer Football League North Division Co-Champions. Bateman has amassed 1,772 punting yards and owns a long boot of 53 yards. He has also converted three-of-four field goal attempts and six-of-seven extra point kicks.

In 2002, Bateman was accorded honorable mention All-PFL recognition and made the PFL Academic Honor Roll.

Bateman's name will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot.
