Valparaiso University baseball players Mike Arensdorff and Kevin Perri were selected First Team All-Mid-Continent Conference, and Adam Knobel was named Second Team All-Mid-Con in a vote by the league's head coaches. All three are first-time all-conference honors.

Valpo pounded out 19 hits to defeat Centenary 15-4 in the nightcap, but Centenary won the opener 10-1 to claim the fourth and final spot in this week's Mid-Con Tournament. Brian Rzepka had five hits and four RBIs, while John Giusti had five hits, including a 4-for-4 performance in the second game. Senior Adam Knobel struck out nine in five shutout innings and senior Eric Brauer belted a long solo homer in his only career at bat.

Senior Adam Knobel became Valpo's all-time saves leader as the Crusaders defeated Centenary 4-2 in the first game of a Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader. The Gents defeated Valpo 4-2 in the nightcap, setting up a decisive twinbill on Sunday to determine whether Valpo or Centenary earns the fourth and final spot in the Mid-Con Tournament.

Valpo will host Centenary in a crucial four-game Mid-Continent Conference series Saturday and Sunday at Emory G. Bauer Field. The Crusaders (8-10 Mid-Con) and Gents (10-10 Mid-Con), who will play noon doubleheaders both days, are vying for one spot in the Mid-Con Tournament.

Valpo's Mike Arensdorff had three hits and four RBIs, but Butler's eight-run fifth inning propelled the Bulldogs to a 17-12 victory over the Crusaders. Colin Reynolds and John Giusti added two hits and two RBIs apiece.

North Dakota State forced Valpo to play comeback baseball in both games and the Bison held on to sweep a doubleheader from the Crusaders by scores of 10-9 and 5-4. Brian Rzepka went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in the opener and Kevin Kutansky had a hit and an RBI in each game for Valpo.

Jordan Smolar allowed just a bunt single over 8 innings and Adam Knobel pitched a hitless ninth to earn his sixth save as Valpo defeated Western Michigan 4-1. Brian Rzepka singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth and Kevin Kutansky delivered a two-run double in the frame to give the Crusaders a three-run lead.

Aaron Cameron's suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th scored Mike Arensdorff with the winning run as Valpo edged Southern Utah 8-7 in the nightcap of a Mid-Continent Conference twinbill. The Thunderbirds outslugged the Crusaders 14-11 in the first game. Arensdorff had eight RBIs in the doubleheader, including seven in the first game. Kevin Perri went 5-for-7 in the twinbill with two triples and two doubles.

Matt Augustine had three hits and three RBIs to help Valpo to an 8-5 victory over Western Illinois in the first game of a Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader. Western Illinois won the nightcap 8-3. Mike Arensdorff, who had five hits in the twinbill, drove in all three Crusader runs in the second game.

Valparaiso brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning in the opening game of a Mid-Con doubleheader, but did not convert, dropping a 10-6 decision to Western Illinois. The Leathernecks also won the second game by a final score of 11-1. Kevin Perri had a two-run homer for the Crusaders in the first game.

Valpo swept a Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader from Chicago State by scores of 13-9 and 8-0. In the first game, the Crusaders (9-14, 2-2) won behind a 17-hit attack. In the nightcap, Nick Mazzone and Dallas Cawiezell combined on the four-hit shutout.

The Crusaders open the Mid-Continent Conference season on Saturday with a road doubleheader against Chicago State beginning at noon. Saturday's and Sunday's (noon) doubleheaders against the Cougars will be played at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

A six-run sixth inning propelled Valpo to a 12-6 victory over host Indiana. The Crusaders (7-8), which pounded out 16 hits, were led by Mike Arensdorff's three hits and three RBIs, and Kevin Perri's three hits and two RBIs. Valpo had seven doubles.

Valpo swept a doubleheader from South Dakota State in the Crusaders' home opener. Kevin Perri's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Valpo to a 2-1 win over the Jackrabbits in the first game, and Eric Brauer and Nick Mazzone combined on a one hour-twenty-five minute 1-0 shutout in the nightcap.
