Wednesday, April 12, 2006

Valparaiso University women's basketball coach Keith Freeman has announced the signing of Kelly Peller to a National Letter of Intent for the 2006-2007 season.

Peller, a 5'11" guard from Chesterton, Ind., was a Second Team All-State selection for Chesterton High School. She led the Trojans to the sectional championship in 2006 while being named to the All-Sectional and All-Duneland Athletic Conference First Teams.

The Post-Tribune's Player of the Year, Peller was a Junior All-Star for the state of Indiana. She was invited to both the 2005 Indiana Top 100 workout as well as the Top 40 Senior Workout.

Peller scored more than 1,000 points during her career at Chesterton, averaging 17.2 points per game as a senior, while grabbing nearly six rebounds and dishing out more than two assists per game.

She also ran cross country and track for the Trojans, finishing ninth in the state in the 400m dash as a junior.

?Kelly is a great competitor who has a passion for the game," Freeman said. ?She is a great fit for Valpo and we look forward to working with her the next four years."
