Lane Breaks School Record at Gina Relays
Saturday, April 28, 2007For the second time in two days, the Valpo women's track and field team broke a school record, as Lakisha Lane (Topeka, Kan./Highland Park) set a new standard in the 100m hurdles to lead the Crusaders on the final day of competition Saturday at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.
The freshman completed the race with a time of 14.68, good for seventh place among the 45 runners and breaking Melanie Wilson's (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) school record by .07. Lane's time also ranks as the second-fastest in the Mid-Con in the event this year.
Lane also anchored the Crusader 4x100m relay team that posted the second-best time in school history in the event, finishing the race in 48.94. Joining Lane on the relay squad were Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan), Patricia Kloth (Medford, Wis./Medford Area) and Wilson.
Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) recorded the highest finish by a Valpo athlete on the day, coming home in fourth place out of a field of 91 in the 1,500m run. Nunnelly crossed the line in 4:38.91, less than a second off of her personal best in the event.
Valparaiso returns to the track next Saturday as the Crusaders take part in the Butler Twilight Meet in Indianapolis, Ind. The first event is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. CDT.
