Valpo Registers Eight Top-10 Finishes at Findlay
Sunday, January 28, 2007Laura Rolf (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) registered one of the best efforts in school history in the 3,000m run, and three other Crusaders posted two top-10 finishes apiece as Valpo took part in the Findlay Track and Field Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Rolf crossed the line in the 3,000m event with a time of 9:40.48, good for second place, finishing only behind an unattached runner. Rolf's time was the second-best time in the event all-time at Valpo, trailing only former All-American Collette Liss. Rolf also surpassed the previous meet record by over six seconds, and was 37 seconds clear of the third-place finisher. The time is the fastest over the distance this year in the Mid-Con, and is less than six seconds shy from provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Indoor National meet.
Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) registered two top-10s in the distance events for Valpo. Nunnelly covered the mile run in 5:11.46, good for a runner-up finish and the second-best time this season in the Mid-Con, behind only Rolf. Nunnelly added a seventh-place finish in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:22.27. Ashley Billstrom (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall) recorded fifth-place finishes in both the mile run (5:16.45) and the 3,000m (10:24.68).
Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) posted top-10 finishes in both the long jump (17'0", eighth) and the triple jump (34'8 ½", ninth) for the Crusaders, while also coming home 12th in the 200m dash and 15th in the 55m dash. Body's qualifying time of 7.45 in the 55m dash matches the second-fastest time in Valpo history. Lakisha Lane (Topeka, Kan./Highland Park) covered the 55m hurdles course in 8.51, good for seventh place.
Valparaiso returns to the track next weekend in Akron, Ohio to take part in the Akron Open on February 2 and 3. The meet begins Friday night at 6 p.m. Central time.
