Eight Valpo softball players have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes for their performance in the classroom last season.

The eight honorees all maintained a cumulative GPA for the 2005-2006 academic year of at least 3.50. Among Valpo's honorees were graduate Ann Sievert; seniors Megan Carroll (Eaton Rapids, Mich./Eaton Rapids), Jessica Schultz (Hubertus, Wis./Hartford Union), and Allison Whitesell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop); juniors Alicia Ashburn (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka), Mallory Gill (Beloit, Wis./Memorial), and Andrea Zappia (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central); and sophomore Karen Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran North). Sievert, Whitesell, Ashburn, Gill and Zappia were all repeat honorees from the 2004-05 season.
