Valparaiso finished the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships with three more school records on Saturday afternoon in Akron, Ohio, bringing the meet to a close with six new school marks and a sixth place finish.

Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) broke the school mark in the 100 freestyle, but it lasted just about an hour.  Her time of 53.05 seconds, placed her 10th in the individual event, just .09 seconds in front of Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.).

Krause then rebroke Majercik’s record with a time of 52.96 seconds in the lead-off leg of the 400 freestyle relay.  She joined Becky Crabtree (Mason, Ohio/Mason H.S.), Grace Arnold (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.), and Majercik on the school record-setting team that finished with a time of 3:31.98, topping the mark set in 2007.

Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke with a school record-setting time of 2:25.45, bettering Ursula Moser’s 1991 school mark of 2:26.58.

Elizabeth Thompson (Norman, Okla./Norman North H.S.) finished seventh in the 200 butterfly, turning in a season’s best mark of 2:11.62.

Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.) finished 11th in the 200 backstroke with a mark of 2:11.95, the second fastest mark ever at Valpo in the event while Karen Berg (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley H.S.) moved into sixth place with a time of 2:13.87.

Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) touched the wall with the fifth fastest mile ever at Valpo on Saturday evening with her time of 18:34.04 while Katie Cissell (Bloomington, Ind./Edgewood H.S.) swam the eighth fastest time ever in the event with a mark of 18:43.39.

“Everything came together today and we had lots of great swims,” interim head coach Barbara Tyree said.  “Everyone stepped up their performances this weekend at the championships.”

Valpo scored 260 points for sixth place overall, easily outdistancing Cleveland State and Butler.  Green Bay won the meet with 832 points followed by Wright State.  Milwaukee and UIC finished third and fourth respectively while Youngstown State finished fifth just 35 points ahead of the Brown and Gold.
