Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) set a new school record in the 60m hurdles Sunday at the final day of competition at the Horizon League Indoor Championships in Kent, Ohio, while Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) matched her own record in the 60m dash.  Both were also part of the Valpo 4x400m relay squad that smashed a school record, as the Crusader women ran to a fourth-place team finish.

Valpo tallied 33 points on the meet, good for fourth place in its first season of league competition.  Youngstown State earned the team title with 176 points.

Wilson demolished her own record in the 60m hurdles, completing the race in 8.74 seconds, a quarter of a second faster than her previous best time in the event.  The senior won the event by 27-hundredths of a second.  Lakisha Lane (Topeka, Kan./Highland Park) added a fifth-place showing in the same event with a time of 9.25 seconds.

Body, who had lowered her own school record in the 60m dash in the preliminary heats Saturday, matched her time on Sunday, crossing the line in 7.90 seconds.  The junior finished fifth and was just three one-hundredths of a second shy of third place.

Wilson and Body also composed the front half of the Crusader 4x400m relay squad which finished fourth.  The quartet, which also included Amy Anderson (Morton, Ill./Morton) and Patricia Kloth (Medford, Wis./Medford Area), finished the race in 3:59.11, nearly four seconds faster than the previous Valpo record.

Wilson and Body each had strong efforts in the triple jump as well.  Wilson registered a runner-up showing with a leap of 37’2 ¼”, while Body placed seventh with a distance of 35’6”.  Also on the infield, Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) took third place in the shot put with a toss of 43’8”.

On the track, two Crusaders posted top-10 finishes in the distance events Sunday.  Rachael Button (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) finished eighth in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:32.13.  Alyssa Bradford (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) added a ninth-place showing in the mile run, crossing the line in 5:19.30.
