Valparaiso University’s Adam Rundh (Aalborg, Denmark/Orjanskolan H.S. [Sweden]) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team as voted upon by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

For Rundh, it is his second straight Academic All-America honor, as he was a Second Team selection a year ago.  He is also a three-time Academic All-District V pick.

The senior defensive lineman tallied 36 tackles in 2009, including seven for loss.  He had 3.5 quarterback sacks, two pass break-ups, and three other quarterback hurries.  He also blocked an extra point attempt in the season finale against Morehead State.

Rundh finished his career with the Crusaders with 124 total tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and four blocked kicks.  He had 33 tackles for loss, including 14 sacks.

A two-time Honorable Mention All-Pioneer Football League selection, Rundh has been voted to the PFL All-Academic Team twice as well.  An international business and finance double major, he carries a 3.94 cumulative grade point average.

Rundh is just the second First Team Academic All-America selection in the football program’s history, joining wide receiver Kevin Knutson who earned the accolade in 2004.  Scott Hinrichs (1995) and Nick Bamber (2001) were named to the Academic All-America Second Team, making Rundh the first two-time Academic All-America selection ever at Valpo.

To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be either a starter or key reserve.  District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba.
