Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) each won doubles and singles matches on Wednesday afternoon, but Valparaiso came up one point short of its first victory of the season, falling 5-4 to Indiana Wesleyan at the Sutter Tennis Center.

York and O’Reilly teamed for an 8-4 victory at number three doubles, defeating Courtney Kooyers and Caitlin McGuire.  York also posted a 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 win over Lauren Wilson at fourth singles while O’Reilly was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Kooyers at number five.  For O’Reilly it was her team-leading fourth singles win of the year.

“Steph and Jackie both played great today,” head coach Traci Young said.  “They were able to win in both singles and doubles, teaming as a great duo at the third spot.”

Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton H.S.) added a singles win for the Brown and Gold at the top of the order, rallying from a set down for a 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 triumph against Lisa Massey.

“Stephanie and Abby both won singles matches after losing the first set,” Young added.  “That just shows how much we are improving as the year goes along.”

Indiana Wesleyan (15-0) was able to win at the other three singles spots as well as the top two doubles contests to earn the victory though, which used the NAIA nine-point scoring system.

Andrea Meyering topped Brittany O’Reilly (Gren Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) 6-2, 6-3 at two singles while Eva Delk defeated Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) 6-3, 6-2.  Caitlin McGuire downed Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayen, Ind./Homestead H.S.) 6-3, 6-1 at number six.

Delk and Massey were 8-4 winners at number one doubles against Camill Burden (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) and Brittany O’Reilly while Meyering and Wilson downed Wright and Bilyeu 8-2 at the second spot.

Valparaiso (0-8) will return to the Valpo Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon to begin a four-match homestand.  The Crusaders will face Youngstown State in a 3 p.m. contest.
