Valparaiso junior Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) has been named the Horizon League Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning the triple jump last Saturday at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.

Mickens earns his first career weekly honor from the league office after leaping 43’11 ¼” on Saturday, his best leap in nearly two years.  The event victory was the second consecutive in as many meets for the junior, and going back to the indoor campaign, Mickens has now finished in the top-four in all eight meets this season in the event.  He also picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 20’9 ¾”.

Mickens and the rest of the Crusaders will return to action this Saturday at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.  The meet is slated for a 10 a.m. CDT start.
