Senior Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) took top honors in the long jump Saturday, while freshman Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) also competed in the 100m dash as the duo represented Valparaiso at the Chicago Penultimate meet in Chicago, Ill.

Mickens earned the victory in the long jump, his fifth of the 2011 outdoor campaign in the event, by registering a leap of 23’8 ¼”, capturing top honors by over eight inches.  Meanwhile, Smith qualified for the event finals in the 100m dash with a preliminary time of 10.95 seconds and then placed fourth in the finals with a time of 11.00 seconds.
